A customer in Southampton rang me saying he has just moved into his new house and asked if I could make his front door more secure. The wooden door only had a traditional rim and night latch set fitted, which is vulnerable because it is non deadlocking. Also, it was fitted next to a glass panel, which could be broken to gain easy entry.

This door definitely needed some new locks! I removed the existing lock and, in its place, I fitted a high security British Standard deadlocking night latch and rim cylinder. This can be deadlocked so even if the glass is smashed the intruder still wouldn’t be able to enter the property. For additional security I also fitted a British standard 5 lever mortice deadlock, which is recommended by the police and insurance companies, so now the once vulnerable front door has become a fortress.
